Providing better local services

Our plan for multicultural Canberrans

A Canberra Liberals Government will move multicultural affairs into the Chief Minister’s Directorate and create a Multicultural Office for Economic Development. The office will build on the strong international connections of multicultural Canberrans to create new jobs and investment in Canberra, strengthening our local economy.

The Canberra Liberals will also work closely with Canberra’s multicultural communities to reimagine the Multicultural Festival. This will include greater consultation with multicultural groups to set a new vision for the future of this festival. We will review pricing to ensure that no groups are priced out of participating.

We will also improve access to interpreter services across essential services including health and justice.

Gungahlin Multicultural and Community Centre

Multicultural events and celebrations, performances, festivals, community forums and art exhibitions will have a new home in a purpose-built Gungahlin Multicultural and Community Centre under a Canberra Liberals Government.

The $7 million Hall will will have capacity for around 1,500 people and will feature commercial kitchens for self-catering of events.

New indoor sports facilities for Gungahlin and Tuggeranong

A Canberra Liberals Government will build two new indoor multi-purpose sports complex’s, one in Calwell and another in the Gungahlin region.

The $12.3 million Calwell facility will provide all-weather, day and night access for a range of sporting codes as well as school sport.

The $12.7 million multipurpose facility to be built in the Gungahlin region will contain six indoor basketball courts and a large multipurpose space. It will be able to hose a variety of other sporting codes including tennis, badminton, table tennis, martial arts and dance groups.

We’re backing our local athletes and sports communities by giving them the facilities they need to develop their talent.
